Behind the Scenes: What it Takes to Pull Off the 2026 Summer Student Concert

Hi guys! This is Brian, one of the stage managers and receptionists of Jaris’ concert. 

Holding a student music concert wasn’t easy as it involves a lot of logistics and preparations at the backdrop, from managing staging sequences, venue planning, props preparation, everything needs to be perfect to make sure every performer and participant (including parents) would have a memorable experience. The concert on 4 July was exactly what Jaris, I, and my team hoped for. Although the event only lasted for 2 hours, preparation began a few weeks ago, as I had to design the concert booklets and to contact all participants that were ready for rehearsals and what songs they had selected. Not to mention of the beautiful booklet cover that was designed by one of our staff, Kelly Tang! It was indeed a team effort which made our concert successful.

What was the most challenging part of my role was to ensure smooth transition between performers and to stay on top of the sequence. For instance, a transition between a student finishing performing piano to a student performing Violin requires the music stand to be adjusted according to their height. A more complex stage setting was just before the Orchestra performance, where all chairs had to be rearranged and the piano to be removed within a minute or so. Without our team knowing ectly what we had to do at that moment, we would not have been able to manage that well.

I hope everyone who participated in the concert had a joyful and unforgettable experience. I also wanted to thank all the performers that had contributed their hard work to prepare the concert, to perform their best on such a large stage. But at the same time, please do also recognise the effort of everyone who was involved in making the concert possible, including Jaris, all the teachers and helpers behind the scenes!
